Richards with the Kings got the instagator and fighting with a visor in there game tonight. The refs are a joke. There needs to be consistently with these calls. Every night the players have to learn new rules. Hard to watch some nights.

Andrew Desjardins did launch himself into Mayers with a high hit, and even though Desjardins appeared to leave his feet to make the hit, the contact itself did seem to be shoulder on shoulder. Tough call in real time for the refs who don't have the benefit of slow motion and various angles. That said a player isn't supposed to target a player who is in a vulnerable position, which Mayers was, even if Mayers should be responsible for his own well being. Personally I have no issue with the hit. However whether the hit was or was not clean is open to interpretation and to officials who only have the benefit of seeing the hit live. The Sharks losing the game because of the call is debateable as well as considering the Hawks began to control the game midway through the first with superior speed, determination and complete lack of intimidation by a bigger more physical Sharks team.
Great story line for the next game between these two teams.

Yeah forget that it was their third game in 4 nights or that you lost to the other top team in the west, it was all the referees fault the Sharks lost that game. No bias there

Meh, same thing happened Friday, Backes given a match penalty for a clean hit. Which ref was it? Pretty sure it was Ian Walsh screwing the Blues over.

I would feel bad but in that 6-3 drubbing there were some questionable calls in that first period that led to too many PP chances for your team.

And it has not been just a single game...there have been plenty of questionable calls in too many games.

Simply put...suck it up, we all go through it.

You're absolutely right. Jamal Mayers definitely needs a replay to know if he got hit in the head. It's not like he could feel it or anything.

Al Gore - are you a hockey fan or not? If that is the kind of hit you want players to make, then I hope your league has players to play in it. Any player who leaves their skates to deliver a hit needs to be suspended - period. The NHL is too good a league to have hack players like that.

End of discussion. And thanks for inventing the internet, so we can discuss things like this.

This blog is funny...

By saying that zebras helped out Hawks with the call is pretty much admitting that Hawks are better team 4 on 4.

Sharks had 2 2-goal leads and lost. That has nothing to do with zebras. It was an even strength winning goal. There is no guarantee that Sharks would score on 4 minute PP.

Personally, I think it was a bad call and clean hit. That call, however, DID NOT contribute to the outcome of the game. Sloppy Sharks D on 3rd and 4th Hawks goal did. Say it as it is.

What makes the call on Desjardins even worse is that all four officials talked it over, and still decided to hand out the match penalty. Granted, in real time and given where everyone was on the ice it's hard to tell whether it was a hit to the head or not, and so I get why the officials called the match penalty - but I'm getting more and more in favor of instant replay for major penalty calls with stuff like this.

Save the drama for your mama... That was a clean hit....what part of the supervising ref's explanation don't you get??

It's too bad Mayers doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to admit he got rocked....rocked so hard that he apparently DOES need a replay to show him it wasn't to his head....

The Shaft? Considering the Hawks lost Keith for basically one full period, I'd say the Sharks actually benefited from this play. Trading a hack like Desjardins for Keith = advantage Sharks. Get some Kleenex, take some Midol, and put your big girl panties on...it's one game. Bad calls happen, every game.

That was a bad call..the head snap is the reason they thought it was a head hit. I have a bigger problem with the fight in the phil vs Tampa game than I do with the hit on Mayers. Not sure who the Philadelphia player was but he should have been ejected for continuing to pound a defenseless player on the ice..no respect for the other player at all!

How does Justin Braun not make the pretenders list? He was directly responsible for two goals against in the game?

How is it an advantage? Kieth got the time he deserved. Desi deserved none. Sharks deserved a powerplay. Yeah, real advantage.

And bad call is a missed call, like when Toews got a stick on Murray's hand creating the turnover before setting up Kane for the winning goal or when Saad got wide open on the Blackhawks first goal becasue he interfiered with Braun. Missed calls suck, esspecailly when create goals but it happens. Creating a 5 minute major from a nonexistent penalty, is inexcusable

You left out the part of the post where you catalog the calls the refs missed on the Sharks. You did do that, right?

In all fairness, everything about that hit was borderline.

Borderline heat shot...

Borderline leaving the feet...

Borderline hit on a vulnerable player...

So while it was not the worst hit I have ever seen, it is still close enough in a number of areas that a call was made...even if you disagree with it.

I think all you hawks fans are butt hurt your boy got rocked. As you can see no one's feet left the ice until after the hit was made... Desi or Mayers. And hawks fans... STOP DRINKING THE COOL AID FROM YOUR CRAPPY BLOGGER HERE ON BUZZ!!! You fan boys just repeat what you see, maybe if you pay attention to the game you understand a 4 min pp does make a huge difference in a 1 goal game and it does in fact change the outcome when the refs make a bad call to leave it at 4 v 4.

Obviously you cant argue the fact BH scored on the 4 v 4, but you can argue those zebras made the an awful call by any standard which costs the sharks the opportunity that they earned and deserved. Good for the league for rescinding the crappy call and good for Desjardins for rocking mayers and woopin on your boy Keith. Id be more mad your top pair D got his butt wooped by a sharks 4th liner.... Dont worry the sharks will see you again real soon with burnzie healed up and boyle not coming off the flu AND MAYBE Just maybe those dumb cows will actually get the game right.
